Coming soon, The Big Flip—Stories from the Modern Home Front is a documentary film that explores the struggles and triumphs of families where mom wins the bread and dad mans the home front. Over 18 months, we follow 4 families with breadwinner moms and stay-at-home dads.
Beyond the film, we want this to be a movement to challenge gender limits on our expectations of what men and women should do and can do. In addition to female breadwinners and at-home dads, we explore issues relevant to working moms, and modern dads, topics like feminism, new masculinity, modern parenting, gender roles, gender bias, gender equality, and gender parity.
This is an independent film driven by women filmmakers—a female director, a female photographer-in-chief—and crowdfunded by a majority of female funders.
We’ve come across many interesting statistics working on The Big Flip. If men do more housework, does it really lead them to have less sex? Statistics show men are more involved in the home than ever before, contributing nearly three times more to childcare now than in 1965. Although dads are pitching in, housework continues to be a major sticking point for families.
